The perfect day to fish.

5/16/2022 - Devils Lake, North Dakota

We had a beautiful day on the water. Mostly clear skies, gentle winds, rising water temperatures and great company all came together like it was part of a plan.

We launched the boat around 10:30 am and made a run to the West about 10 miles. After about 30 minutes of driving we arrive where we would be fishing for the day which was along a road side. The road used to be US route 281 that runs from Canada to Texas. Due to this lake not having a run off, constant rain/snowfall combined with other factors the lake has flooded. So much that it has taken over roads, fields and peoples homes. This road in particular was rerouted a couple miles west of where it once ran.

As we fished along what is left of this road we were able to catch a 3 man limit on Northern Pike and Walleye. The Pikes were most responsive to a weighted jig head with a paddle tail trailer. Walleye however preferred a leach suspended from a slip bobber.

I’m very thankful for the day we had on the water and excited for day 2!
